A desert immersion, not a drive-by.

Tour

On this private 2-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, an overnight camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes awaits. A camel ride across the sand dunes and a calm desert sunset are part of the experience. A lot of driving is involved in this 2-day Fes to Marrakech desert tour, so please be prepared — it is designed for those without enough time in Morocco. If three days are available, splitting the nine-hour drive from Merzouga to Marrakech and seeing many beautiful sites along the way is a much better experience.

Fes → Ifrane → Middle Atlas Mountains → Ziz Valley → Merzouga

Fes → Ifrane → Middle Atlas Mountains → Ziz Valley → Merzouga

Picked up from your accommodation in Fes, the journey to the Sahara desert of Merzouga begins. The first stop is Ifrane — known as the Switzerland of Morocco for its colder climate. From here, the route crosses the Middle Atlas Mountains with a roadside stop in a cedar forest where Barbary apes can often be spotted. Lunch is at a restaurant along the way. The drive then continues along the Ziz Valley — a palm-filled oasis — with a panoramic stop to take in the view. Arriving in the desert in the afternoon, the camels are waiting to take you across the dunes to your luxury camp. The sunset is watched from a high dune. At the camp, your private tent is shown to you — time to relax and shower before a delicious dinner. After dinner, a bonfire is lit and the evening is spent watching the Berbers drum and sing under the stars.

Waking up early is recommended today — a calm sunrise is the reward. After breakfast, the camp is left behind by 4x4 and the long journey to Marrakech begins. Stops are made along the way. In Aït Ben Haddou, a panoramic view of Morocco's most famous kasbah is taken in — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a film location for The Mummy, Prince of Persia, and Game of Thrones. After photographs of this historic site, the route continues over the High Atlas Mountains with stops for panoramic views. The tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel or riad in Marrakech.

"A truly unforgettable adventure was had on this 2-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech. From the moment of pick-up at the riad in Fes, the journey was seamless and well-organised. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the camel trek through Erg Chebbi dunes, where the sunset over the desert landscape was nothing short of magical. Comfort was prioritised throughout — the luxury camp exceeded expectations, with private tents and en-suite bathrooms. The evening around the campfire with Berber music under a starlit sky created an atmosphere unlike anything else. Highly recommended — and if time allows, the three-day version of this tour is worth considering for an even richer experience."
