Arrival in Tangier — Caves of Hercules & Medina
Your journey begins with a welcome at Tangier airport or port, where your guide meets you with a sign and transfers you to your riad. Along the way you stop at the legendary Caves of Hercules on the Atlantic coast before a scenic drive along the shoreline into the city centre. You arrive at your riad and spend the rest of the day exploring the medina of Tangier freely — its narrow streets, historic gates, and lively market squares make for an excellent first encounter with Morocco.
Tangier → Tetouan → Chefchaouen
After breakfast you head south through the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen, passing through the white city of Tetouan on the way. Chefchaouen is one of Morocco's most extraordinary towns — founded as a secret stronghold and closed to outsiders for centuries, it is now famous worldwide for its blue and white painted alleyways, peaceful mountain atmosphere, and friendly locals. Check into your medina hotel and spend the afternoon wandering freely through the winding streets and artisan souks.
Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes
After a free morning to explore more of Chefchaouen's blue medina, you set off toward Fes via the Mamora Forest and the ancient Roman site of Volubilis, located just 27km from Meknes. Walk among the well-preserved mosaics, triumphal arches, and colonnaded streets of this extraordinary 3rd-century city. You then stop in Meknes to admire the monumental Bab el-Mansour gate and visit the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail before continuing to Fes, where a riad with a pool awaits you for the night.
Full Day Guided Tour of Fes
A local expert guide leads you through the labyrinthine streets of Fes el-Bali, one of the world's best-preserved medieval cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You visit the ancient Al-Qarawiyyin University — founded in 859 AD and considered the oldest university in the world — along with the Al-Attarine Madrasa, the Nejjarine Fountain, the colourful Chouara Tanneries, and the historic Andalusian quarter. The Jewish Mellah and its old synagogues are also on the itinerary before you end the day with panoramic views of the city from an ancient hilltop fortress.
Fes → Ifrane → Azrou → Middle Atlas → Erfoud → Merzouga
Leaving Fes, you head into the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping first in Ifrane — a surprisingly alpine town known as the Switzerland of Africa — then in Azrou, a Berber village celebrated for its cedar woodwork and carpet weaving. In the cedar forest nearby you encounter wild Barbary macaques roaming freely among the trees. The road climbs to the Tizi Talghemt pass at 1,907 metres before dropping down through the Tafilalet region to Erfoud, famous for its 380-million-year-old fossil quarries and the finest dates in Morocco. You arrive at Merzouga at sunset for your first view of the mighty Erg Chebbi dunes.
Merzouga Desert — Khamlia, Nomadic Visit, Rissani & Camel Trek
A full day of desert exploration begins with a 4x4 drive to Khamlia, a village whose population descends from Mali and who keep alive the ancient tradition of Gnawa music — you enjoy a live performance before heading off-road around the dunes. You visit abandoned Berber and French villages and the ancient kohl mines before sharing tea with a nomadic family at their camp and learning about their remarkable way of life. In Rissani you explore one of the most authentic rural markets in southern Morocco before returning to mount your camel for a sunset ride into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Dinner, Berber music, and a night under the desert stars await.
Desert → Erfoud → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley
Wake before sunrise to climb a high dune and watch the Sahara light up in amber and gold before riding your camel back to the hotel for a shower and breakfast. You then head west through Erfoud, where local artisans carve remarkable objects from fossil-rich stone, and on to the Todra Gorge — a favourite among climbers and hikers — where sheer canyon walls tower above a cold rushing river. The afternoon follows the legendary Route of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Valley of the Roses, where Berber families distil rose water and fragrant creams from locally grown flowers. You spend the night at a welcoming mountain hotel above the Dades River.

The city rewards unhurried exploration — spend the morning in the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia Palace, and the Ben Youssef Madrassa before losing yourself in the souks of the ancient medina. The afternoon is perfect for a visit to the vivid blue Majorelle Gardens or a stroll through the Jewish Mellah quarter. As evening falls, the Jemaa el-Fnaa square transforms into an extraordinary open-air spectacle of musicians, storytellers, food stalls, and performers — an experience unlike anything else on earth.
Marrakech → Casablanca → Rabat → Asilah

Is this tour available starting from a city other than Tangier?
Yes. The itinerary can be adapted to begin and end from a different city, such as Casablanca or Marrakech. Contact us with your preferred departure point and we will adjust the route accordingly.
What vehicles are used during the tour?
We use comfortable private air-conditioned vehicles suited to your group size, including Toyota Prado Land Cruiser, Ford Tourneo Custom, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibus for larger groups.
How should we book and pay?
A small deposit paid via PayPal, bank transfer, or Wise confirms your booking. The remaining balance is paid in cash on the first day of the tour directly to your driver-guide, in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams.
