Fes → Ifrane → Middle Atlas Mountains → Ziz Valley → Merzouga
Departure from Fes at around 08:00, heading south toward Merzouga. The first stop is Ifrane — the little Switzerland of Morocco — for a coffee break. From here, a visit to the cedar forest near Azrou where Barbary apes roam freely among the trees. The drive continues over the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt — known as the apple capital of Morocco — where you stop for lunch. From Midelt, the route follows the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass and descends along the Ziz Valley — a lush oasis of palm trees and traditional Berber villages stretching toward the desert. Plenty of stops along the way for photographs. Arriving in Merzouga in the afternoon, your camels and guide are waiting to take you across the Erg Chebbi dunes to your desert camp. Watch an orange sunset from a high dune ridge. After a delicious dinner, the camp lights the fire and the evening belongs to a campfire, Berber music, and a sky blazing with stars.

An early wake-up is strongly recommended today — the Saharan sunrise from the dunes is a spectacle not to be missed. After a hearty breakfast at the camp, the journey back to Fes begins via Rissani — the historic birthplace of Morocco's current ruling royal family. If today falls on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, the traditional Moroccan souk in Rissani is well worth a visit. From Rissani, the return route heads back through Erfoud and along the Ziz Valley before arriving in Fes, where your driver drops you at your accommodation. End of your 2-day Fes desert tour.
