We pick you up from your Marrakech accommodation in the morning and head south — today is about covering the full distance between Marrakech and the desert in one long, scenic drive. The road crosses the High Atlas Mountains with stops to take in the views over Berber villages and cedar-covered slopes. We make a proper stop at the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou kasbah — a fortified village that has served as a film set for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Prince of Persia since 1987. Lunch follows at a local restaurant en route, then we push on south through the Draa Valley toward Merzouga. We arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon. You check into your riad — your base for the next two nights — with the Erg Chebbi dunes right on your doorstep. Dinner at the riad, then an early night ahead of a full desert day tomorrow.
Full day exploring the Merzouga desert
Rise early to catch the Saharan sunrise over Erg Chebbi from your riad — the dunes are literally outside your window. After breakfast, the full desert day begins. Your 4x4 takes you out beyond the dunes to visit a Nomadic Berber family living in the traditional way. Your guide explains their daily life, their culture, and their deep connection to the desert. The morning also includes a stop in the hidden village of Mefis and a visit to Khamlia, where local Gnawa musicians perform — one of the most memorable cultural experiences on any Morocco trip. A glimpse of the Lake of Birds rounds out the morning if conditions allow. After lunch back at the riad — and a rest or swim if the pool is available — the afternoon camel trek begins. You ride out into Erg Chebbi as the light turns golden, pausing to sandboard the dunes and watch the full Saharan sunset before arriving at your luxury desert camp. Dinner under the stars, Berber drumming around the fire, and a night deep in the dunes.

Wake before dawn for your final Saharan sunrise — your last morning in the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, the 4x4 is loaded and the long return drive to Marrakech begins. Today's route takes a different path back through Morocco's longest valley — the Draa Valley — with a panoramic stop in Agdez overlooking the vast palm oasis stretching below. We continue through Ouarzazate for lunch, then cross back over the High Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon. We drop you at your accommodation.

What if I don't want to ride a camel?
No problem — we transfer you to the desert camp by 4x4 at no extra charge. Your comfort always comes first.
Do the desert camps have private bathrooms?
Yes — every camp in our selection is a luxury camp with private en-suite bathrooms and showers inside each tent. We never book basic shared-bathroom camps.
What vehicle will we travel in?
Smaller groups travel in a Toyota Land Cruiser or similar 4x4. Larger groups use a Ford Tourneo Custom or Mercedes Sprinter minibus. All vehicles are private, air-conditioned, and chosen for comfort on long driving days.
How far in advance should I reserve this tour?
We recommend booking at least 2–3 weeks in advance, particularly during peak season (March–May and September–November). Last-minute bookings are sometimes possible — just WhatsApp us to check availability.
How does payment work?
