A desert immersion, not a drive-by.

Tour

Short on time but not on ambition? This 2-day desert tour from Marrakech gets you deep into the Sahara and back, packing in camel trekking across the towering Erg Chebbi dunes, a spectacular desert sunset, an evening of Berber music around the campfire, and a night in a luxury desert camp under a sky blazing with stars. It is a lot of ground to cover in two days — but the memories you take home will last far longer.

Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Merzouga Desert

Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Merzouga Desert

We pick you up from your Marrakech riad or hotel early in the morning and head south, climbing through the dramatic High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass. The drive itself is one of Morocco's most scenic — ridge after ridge of Berber villages, cedar forests, and ochre plains stretching towards the desert horizon. After a lunch stop along the route, we continue to Merzouga in the early afternoon. Your camel is waiting at the edge of the dunes. Ride out into Erg Chebbi as the afternoon light turns the sand from gold to deep red, stopping on a high dune ridge to watch the full desert sunset. Continue by camel to your luxury Berber camp where mint tea and a warm welcome await. After dinner, the campfire comes alive with Berber drumming and stargazing beneath one of Africa's clearest night skies.

Set your alarm early — the Saharan sunrise is worth it. Climb the nearest dune before dawn and watch the desert come alive in gold and orange. Back at camp for breakfast, then we load up the 4x4 and begin the return journey to Marrakech. We stop at the iconic Aït Ben Haddou kasbah — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and a filming location for Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and Kingdom of Heaven. After lunch in Ouarzazate, we cross back over the High Atlas Mountains and arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon, dropping you at your accommodation.

07 · Why this tour

Why travellers choose this one.

01

Short on time, big on experience

This is Morocco's fastest route to the Sahara and back. Two days, one night in the dunes, and a genuine desert experience — without needing a full week off work.

02

Your own private vehicle — always

Every tour runs in a private air-conditioned 4x4 or minibus — never shared with strangers from another booking. Our owner-operated fleet is under 4 years old and maintained in-house.

03

Real sand dunes, not rocky desert

Erg Chebbi in Merzouga has the towering golden dunes Morocco is famous for — not the rocky plateau of Zagora or the pebble desert of Agafay. This is the real Sahara.

04

Luxury desert camps only

We never book basic camps with shared bathrooms. Every camp in our selection has private tents with en-suite bathrooms. You sleep comfortably — even in the middle of the Sahara.

05

Born-and-raised local guides

Our driver-guides grew up in these landscapes. They know every viewpoint, every family-run restaurant, and every hidden gem along the route — because this is their home, not just their job.

06

Transparent pricing

One quote, everything included. No surprise fees at checkout, no hidden add-ons. What we quote is what you pay — and we will always tell you exactly what is covered before you book.

★★★★★

"An incredible 2-day adventure from Marrakech. The drive through the High Atlas Mountains was breathtaking, and arriving at the Erg Chebbi dunes in the afternoon was something I will never forget. The luxury desert camp exceeded every expectation — private tent, proper bathroom, and the most spectacular night sky I have ever seen. Our guide was warm, knowledgeable, and made the whole trip feel personal. Highly recommended for anyone short on time but not on adventure."

"We only had 2 days but Across Morocco Travel made every hour count. The camel trek at sunset was the highlight of our entire Morocco trip. Waking up before dawn to watch the sunrise from the dunes was pure magic — completely silent, completely unforgettable. The stop at Aït Ben Haddou on the way back was a bonus we did not expect. Excellent organisation from start to finish."

"I was nervous about doing the desert in just 2 days but it was absolutely worth it. The private tour meant everything moved at our pace. Our driver knew every viewpoint and every story along the way. The luxury camp was far beyond what I imagined — I honestly did not expect a proper bathroom in the middle of the Sahara. The campfire evening with Berber music was the perfect end to the day. Book it without hesitation."

Questions, answered.

What if I don't want to ride a camel?

No problem at all. We will transfer you directly to the desert camp by 4x4 at no extra charge. Your comfort always comes first.

Do the desert camps have private bathrooms?

Yes — every camp in our selection is a luxury camp with private en-suite bathrooms and showers inside each tent. We never book basic shared-bathroom camps.

What vehicle will we travel in?

For couples and small groups we use a Toyota Land Cruiser or similar 4x4. Larger groups travel in a comfortable 8-seater van or Mercedes Sprinter minibus. All vehicles are air-conditioned, privately operated, and under 4 years old.

How early should I book this tour?

We recommend booking at least 2–3 weeks in advance, particularly during peak season (March–May and September–November). Last-minute bookings are sometimes possible — just WhatsApp us to check availability.

How does payment work?

A small deposit confirms your booking, payable via PayPal, bank transfer, or Wise. The remaining balance is settled in cash on the first day of the tour — in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams.
