The tour begins right after breakfast at your hotel or riad in Fes. The first stop is Ifrane — often called the Switzerland of Morocco. From there the Middle Atlas Mountains are crossed, with a pause in the cedar forests to observe Barbary macaques, a primate species unique to the region. Lunch is at a restaurant along the route at a time that suits you. As Merzouga approaches, a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley — full of palm trees — opens up. Arriving in the late afternoon, a camel trek begins — each traveller sets off on a camel toward a luxury desert camp nestled among the sweeping Erg Chebbi dunes. Along the way, a stop to watch the sunset from a high dune. The evening is spent immersed in local desert culture — rhythmic drumming, storytelling, and a starry night sky.
An early morning is highly recommended today to catch a peaceful sunrise. After breakfast at the camp, the return to Merzouga town is by camel or 4x4 — your choice. A scenic drive then heads toward Boumalne Dades via Rissani, Erfoud, and the Todra Gorge. If the day falls on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, a traditional market in Rissani is running — a window into the vibrant culture of southern Morocco. A leisurely stroll along the Todra River and beneath the walls of the Todra Gorge in Tinghir follows. Arriving in Boumalne Dades in the afternoon, a drive through the Dades Valley leads to a viewpoint overlooking the famous monkey fingers rock formations. The evening is spent at a charming hotel in the heart of the Dades Valley.
After breakfast at your accommodation, a scenic drive to Aït Ben Haddou begins — passing through the Valley of Roses, Ouarzazate, and numerous picturesque Berber villages. In Ouarzazate, the Atlas Studio is an optional stop where film sets and decorations from numerous productions are preserved. Just 15 kilometres from Ouarzazate lies the Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah — recognized for its appearances in Game of Thrones, Gladiator, and other iconic films, and UNESCO listed since 1987. After visiting the kasbah and lunch, the journey continues through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2260 metres above sea level. Arrival in Marrakech in the late afternoon.
