Marrakech → High Atlas → Skoura → Dades Gorges
We collect you from your Marrakech accommodation and head south, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the famous Tizi-N-Tichka Pass. Your driver-guide stops at the best viewpoints along the way — and you can ask for extra stops whenever something catches your eye. After lunch in Aït Ben Haddou or Ouarzazate, the route continues through the palm oasis of Skoura — where the Amridil Kasbah is worth a visit — and into the Rose Valley. If you're here in spring, the valley is in full bloom. The day ends at Dades Gorges, where the famous "monkey fingers" rock formations rise dramatically above the valley floor. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in the gorge.
Dades Gorges → Todra Canyon → Merzouga
After breakfast, the drive follows the Dades and Todra Rivers through palm groves and Berber villages to the Todra Gorge in Tinghir — one of the most dramatic canyons anywhere in the world, where the walls narrow to just a few metres apart at the base. From there the road opens into desert country as you head toward Merzouga. En route your guide may suggest a stop at a local Berber cultural shop where you can try on traditional dress and pick up a desert scarf — completely optional, no pressure to buy. Once in Merzouga, the camels are ready. You ride out into Erg Chebbi at golden hour, watch the full sunset from the dunes, try sandboarding, then settle in for dinner at your luxury desert camp beneath a sky full of stars.
Merzouga → Rissani → Agdez → Ouarzazate
Wake before sunrise and climb the nearest dune to watch the Saharan dawn — the colours over Erg Chebbi are worth every early-morning effort. After breakfast at camp, you return to Merzouga by camel or 4x4 — your choice. First stop is Khamlia village, where local Gnawa musicians perform traditional music in a setting completely off the standard tourist trail. Next comes Rissani — historically significant as the birthplace of Morocco's ruling Alaouite dynasty and a major stop on ancient trans-Saharan caravan routes. If the day falls on Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, the traditional souk is running. The drive then winds through the Draa Valley with a panoramic stop in Agdez before arriving in Ouarzazate for the night.
Ouarzazate → Aït Ben Haddou → Telouet Kasbah → Marrakech
Breakfast in Ouarzazate, then a short exploration of the city before heading out. Known as the Gateway to the Sahara and the Hollywood of Africa, Ouarzazate is home to Atlas Studios — the largest film studio on the continent — and the historic Taourirt Kasbah. From there the road leads to Aït Ben Haddou, the UNESCO-listed fortified village that has been a backdrop for Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones since 1987. After exploring the kasbah, the final leg takes you north through the Atlas Mountains with a stop at the Telouet Kasbah along the way. You arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon, dropped at your accommodation.

How long does the drive from Marrakech to the Sahara take?
The drive to Merzouga is roughly 9 hours from Marrakech. To make that comfortable rather than exhausting, this tour breaks it across two days with an overnight stop in Dades Gorges — so day one is a scenic journey, not a slog.
What if I don't want to ride a camel?
No problem — we transfer you to the desert camp by 4x4 at no extra charge. Your comfort always comes first.
Do the desert camps have private bathrooms?
Yes — every camp in our selection is a luxury camp with private en-suite bathrooms and showers inside each tent. We never book basic shared-bathroom camps.
What vehicle will we travel in?
Smaller groups travel in a Toyota Land Cruiser or similar 4x4. Larger groups use a Ford Tourneo Custom or Mercedes Sprinter minibus. All vehicles are private, air-conditioned, and chosen for comfort on long driving days.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 2–3 weeks ahead, particularly during peak season (March–May and September–November). Last-minute availability sometimes exists — just WhatsApp us to check.
