Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

Marrakech → High Atlas → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

Departure from Marrakech at 08:00 AM. The route heads south over the High Atlas Mountains along one of Morocco's former trans-Saharan trade routes — with stops along the way to take in traditional Berber villages and panoramic mountain views. The first major stop is Aït Ben Haddou village where lunch is taken before exploring Morocco's most famous kasbah — a fortified village used as a film location for Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. From there the road continues to Ouarzazate — the Hollywood of Africa and gateway to the desert — with a photo stop outside Atlas Studios. The route then passes through the Rose Valley in Kelaat M'Gouna before arriving in the Dades Valley in the afternoon. The famous monkey toes rock formations are visited before a drive to Morocco's famous zigzag road for a panoramic view of the gorges from above. Dinner and overnight at a beautiful hotel in the Dades Valley.

Dades Valley → Tinghir → Todra Gorge → Merzouga

After breakfast at the hotel, the drive to the desert begins. A stop at the lush palm oasis in Tinghir is followed by a walk beneath the Todra Canyon — 300 metres of towering rock walls rising on both sides of the path. Lunch is at a restaurant along the way. Arriving at Erg Chebbi in the afternoon, the camels are waiting at the edge of the dunes. The trek crosses the giant Erg Chebbi dunes toward the luxury desert camp — pausing on a high dune for a spectacular orange sunset and a chance to try sandboarding. At the camp a cup of tea and a private luxury tent await. After a delicious dinner, the crew lights a campfire and plays Berber music. Guests can learn how to play the drums, share in Berber culture, and stare at a sky blazing with stars before retiring to their private tent for the night.

07 · Why this tour

Why travellers choose this one.

01

Maximum 10 people — not 17 or more

Some companies call 17-person buses a "small group." This tour caps at 10 people maximum — close enough to a private tour that the difference is barely noticeable.

02

Private room and private tent guaranteed

Even on a shared tour, no room or tent is shared with strangers. Every traveller gets a private air-conditioned room at the hotel and a private luxury tent with en-suite bathroom at the camp.

03

Access to places large groups can't reach

Smaller groups get into areas that larger convoys simply cannot access — away from the crowds, closer to the actual experience.

04

More time at every stop

Fewer travellers means less time loading and unloading vehicles, less time checking in, and more time actually exploring each destination.

05

Better photographs

With only 10 people in the group, there is no risk of photographing the back of someone's head at every landmark.

06

High-quality locally-owned accommodation

Small locally-owned hotels and camps are used throughout — not the large low-quality hotels that big tour groups are funnelled into. The service level is noticeably better.

08 · Accommodation

Three options — pick your comfort.

Mix-and-match is encouraged. Want option 2 on night one and option 3 on night two? Done.

Night 1

A beautiful hotel in the Dades Valley with air-conditioned rooms and en-suite bathrooms. Dinner and breakfast included.

Included in price

Night 2

A luxury desert camp in Erg Chebbi dunes. Each tent is tastefully decorated with an en-suite bathroom, flush toilet, and washbasin. Dinner and breakfast included.

"Enough cannot be said about this shared 3-day desert tour. The small group concept was a genuine game-changer — a more personal and immersive experience was provided throughout. The journey from Marrakech to Merzouga was packed with highlights including the UNESCO Kasbah, Todra Gorge, and the breathtaking sunrise in the Sahara. The accommodations were carefully selected and offered real comfort and authenticity. The opportunity to add extra activities made it even better — a quad biking adventure was added, bringing an extra layer of excitement to an already fantastic trip."

"An absolute delight from start to finish. The small group size — capped at 10 people — allowed everyone to connect like a close-knit family throughout the trip. The itinerary was well-crafted, covering the High Atlas Mountains, Todra Gorge, and the mesmerizing Erg Chebbi dunes. The accommodations were exceptional — particularly the stay in the beautiful Dades Valley hotel and the luxury desert camp.
