Every tour includes private transport in a comfortable 4x4, an English-speaking driver-guide, camel trekking at Erg Chebbi, and a night in a luxury desert camp. The Sahara is roughly 9 to 10 hours from Marrakech by road, so a day trip simply does not leave enough time to experience it properly. Our shortest option is a 2-day tour, which gets you there, into the dunes, and back without feeling rushed.

For most people who visit, the Sahara ends up being the highlight of their entire Morocco trip. The scale of the dunes, the silence of the desert at night, the stars — nothing quite prepares you for it. If you can make it happen, do not hesitate.

Yes — the Agafay Desert is only about 40 minutes from Marrakech and makes for a great half-day or evening excursion. However, it is a rocky, lunar landscape rather than a sand dune desert. For the classic Sahara experience with towering dunes, Merzouga is the destination.

Merzouga, the gateway to Morocco's most famous dunes, is around 550 kilometres from Marrakech — typically a 9 to 10 hour drive. The route winds through the High Atlas Mountains and the dramatic Draa Valley, so the journey itself is very much part of the experience.

We recommend at least 3 days as a minimum — this gives you one full day in the desert rather than just passing through. If your schedule allows 4 or 5 days, you will have time to explore the dunes properly, visit local villages, and travel at a comfortable pace without feeling like you are rushing between stops.

All our desert tours use comfortable, air-conditioned 4x4 vehicles — so you do not need to worry about arranging your own transport. The roads through the Atlas and into the desert can be rough in places, and a 4x4 makes the journey significantly more comfortable and reliable.

Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes are by far the most sought-after desert destination from Marrakech. The dunes here reach up to 150 metres and offer everything from camel treks and sandboarding to stargazing from a luxury camp. It is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave.
